GAF Energy to build second US nailable solar shingle factory to meet growing demand

To meet rising demand for its “world’s first” nailable solar shingle, the Timberline Solar Energy Shingle, which debuted in January, GAF Energy, the sister company of GAF, the biggest roofing and waterproofing company in North America, will construct a 450,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Georgetown, Texas.

The company’s capacity will expand by 500% with the opening of the second factory for GAF Energy, bringing yearly production of its solar shingles to 300 megawatts. As a result, GAF Energy will become the world’s biggest manufacturer of solar roofing.

Hundreds of jobs in the manufacture of sustainable energy will be created by the Georgetown factory, which will be located north of Austin and open for business in 2019. The first factory for GAF Energy was finished and put into operation in 2021 in San Jose, California.

The launch of Timberline Solar was motivated by the idea that more customers would pick solar if they had a more dependable, long-lasting, and appealing choice, according to Martin DeBono, president of GAF Energy. Comparable in price to rack mounted systems, Timberline Solar is more cheap than other solar roofs. It costs almost half as much as the Tesla Solar Roof.

The cheapest time to go solar is when you need a new roof since you can combine two home improvement jobs into one. Additionally, the solar helps pay for the roof by lowering your power costs each month.

According to Martin DeBono, president of GAF Energy, installing Timberline solar would likely cost $30,000 (before subsidies) to replace a $15,000 roof (without solar).

Pricing is handled directly for the customer by GAF Energy’s roofing partners, and it greatly depends on the roof, the amount of shadowing, and a variety of other elements.
