As the peak season for iPhone production approaches, thousands of job seekers wait in line at the Foxconn factory in Shenzhen.

Foxconn Technology Group, an Apple supplier, is increasing hiring at its Shenzhen factories and offering larger bonuses to recruit candidates before the busy period for producing new iPhone models.
Despite the oppressive heat and strict Covid-19 regulations, thousands of job seekers lined up at the gate to the recruitment and training centre on Monday afternoon at Foxconn’s Shenzhen campus in the Longhua district to register.
Numerous recruitment agencies provided shuttle buses and cars for the arrival of hundreds of job seekers as they prepared for interviews and medical examinations. According to recruiters the Post spoke to on location, accepted candidates will be formally enrolled on Tuesday.

A Longhua Human Resources Market recruiter with the last name Huang estimated that recently, about 2,000 applicants had visited to complete the hiring process each day.

Huang noted that this was still less than the peaks of 8,000 to 9,000 employees he has witnessed during the busy season, which lasts from August to September.
Due to the Covid-19 situation, fewer people were coming to Foxconn to apply for jobs, according to Huang, who on Monday brought about 70 candidates to the recruitment site.
People find it challenging to get to Shenzhen from other cities, and since there have been a few Covid-19 cases in the Longhua district as well, some are hesitant to visit, according to Huang.
