The teaser for Oppenheimer introduces the “man who moved the Earth.”

The first Oppenheimer teaser has been released. The teaser begins with a voiceover discussing how the world is changing and how J. Robert Oppenheimer’s moment has finally arrived. We see sparks, fire, and a cloud of fire and smoke with Cillian Murphy intercuts. In Christopher Nolan’s film, Murphy plays the title character.

The teaser then goes on to explain the concept of an atomic bomb, with another voice over saying, “You gave them the power to destroy themselves and made him the most important man who ever lived.” The film’s footage is monochromatic. The video concludes with the phrase “The man who moved the Earth.”

Oppenheimer is a biopic of J Robert Oppenheimer, the man in charge of the Manhattan Project during WWII. The Manhattan Project resulted in the development of the first nuclear weapons. Oppenheimer also stars, among others, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, and Rami Malek. The film is based on Kai Bird and Martin J Sherwin’s biography of the scientist, American Prometheus.

Cillian Murphy previously stated in an interview with The Guardian that he did a lot of reading for the role. “I’m interested in the individual and what (inventing the atomic bomb) does to him.” The mechanics aren’t really my thing. I lack the intellectual capacity to comprehend them…” Murphy stated.

When asked about Christopher Nolan, the actor stated, “I’ll always turn up for Chris, no matter how small the part.” Chris will call me, and I will be there. Isn’t it wonderful that filmmakers are still making difficult, demanding films within the studio system, on film rather than IMAX? I believe he is flying the flag. He, Paul Thomas Anderson, and Quentin Tarantino are all fantastic filmmakers who produce interesting work on a grand scale.”
